    I love this book!

The Flint Heart was a pretty good book, but I would recommend it for a younger audience of readers. The storyline was entertaining, but not terribly deep. However, everybody’s opinion is different- I would still read it and see what you think!

I love this book! I like the thrilling adventure of the flint heart as it passes from creature to creature, making trouble along the way. I think that everyone should read this book

I liked this book. I got lost on chapters 8-13. I liked the beginning about Putt and Fum

Can you try reading Chapter 8 again? Maybe it would be more fun on a second try. — Kate Davie

I love the Flint Heart because I really love fantasy stories and how
it starts in the stone age and then millions of years later it
comes to a man and then its a big adventure with the fairys and
everything. I also like this book because it’s like different stories
and books i have read such as The Lord Of The Rings.

My teacher read The Flint Heart to me and it was a very good book. I like how it skips forward a few hundred years and the flint heart is still there. I also like how more than one person get’s the flint heart and it causes so manyproblems. I also like the hot water bottle and the jacky toad and I think the king cuts the jacky toad some slack. My favorite character has to be the jacky toad.He is a very interesting guy and his home is very cool as they described it in the book. I also like the hot water bottle because his name was Bismark, which I think is a very interesting name. I also like how they were very specific that the water bottle was made in Germany. I also like how they made Charles shrink to fit in the pixy hole. I haven’t read any other Katherine Pattison but I’ve heard they are very good. This was one of my favorite DCF books but Titantic Sinks is another good one.

This book has a lot of secrets in it. It also has a lot of interesting characters and adventure in it. I especially like the fairies. I think you should read this book if you haven’t. :) :p :0

The book was well thought out and the illustrations were good. My favorite character was the Zagabog because he’s funny. At the Fairy Banquet, he tells a joke. The Flint Heart makes people turn evil.

I’m going to tell you why I think the Flint Heart is a great book. The Flint Heart is good because it teaches you a lesson that you don’t want to own the flint heart; it is not good. I think the Flinlt Heart is a good book because most of the characters are nice and the illustrations are nice too.

  •    Logan  |  November 29th, 2012 at 8:24 am

Best book ever! I like it because it’s full of fantasy and is adventurous, like when the kids quiz a fairy and he succeeds. I definitely hope you like it as much as I did.

I really loved this book, it had a lot of character. I really liked the fairies in this book because they all looked very magical. I suggest this book to everyone who likes fantasy. It’s a fantastic book and I think that all the people who have not read it will enjoy it.

I liked the Flint Heart because the ending is really good You can tell the author really took pride in her work. She didn’t leave any thing out and told the story nicely. My favorite part was when they swiched parts in the beginning of the story. I think the lay out of the story was good. It took place in two places.

  •    maya  |  November 29th, 2012 at 8:12 am

Once my teacher started the book I loved it! But whenever he stopped the book because we had to go somewhere I keep on asking and pleading with him to read more! That’s how great I think the book is![Extra punctuation deleted. -- Kate Davie]

I have read The Flint Heart by Katherine and John Patterson and it is a very good book :) . My favorite character in this book is probably Unity. I like Unity because she is always so curious and she is always asking questions. I really think that you should read this book.

  •    kurt  |  November 29th, 2012 at 8:00 am

I liked this book because it had a lot of adventure and it was awesome :) :) .

  •    oink1  |  November 26th, 2012 at 7:06 am

I personally loved the adventure in the book. My favorite part was the fairies.I wonder if it’s going to be found.

  •    Anonymous  |  November 19th, 2012 at 12:36 pm

This book is very good and I love its genre fantasy. The pictures really describe the story and I like all the describing words they use. I also like the characters and how the writer Katherine Patterson makes you feel like you are in the book. My favorite character is Unity because she is very curious about every thing around her.

    Not the best book.

The first DCF book I chose to read this year, I wasn’t very happy with. I chose to read The Flint Heart by Katherine Paterson. The overall story was okay, and the beginning was excellent, but by the middle of the book I wanted to stop reading. I found the book boring, the art was cool, and the characters were great, but the way it was written didn’t make me want to continue reading unlike most of Katherine Paterson’s books.

Alas, not every book works for every person, even when it’s written by a favorite author! The Flint Heart has garnered a lot of positive comments from other readers, but it sounds as though you will be happier with one of the other books from the list. — Kate Davie

  •    E-Wow iz my brother  |  November 8th, 2012 at 9:02 am

This year I have looked over the list and summaries of the DCF books and have been unimpressed. In the recent years the DCF list has had between four and seven good books that I enjoyed, but this year I noticed a lack of fictional adventure books. After saying this, there is one book that has caught my attention, The Flint Heart; it seems to have a good plotline based on the reviews I’ve read. One of the main things I look for in a book is a surprising backstory or twist that was unexpected beforehand; all in all I think this book has chance to be a truly good story. I am excited to get started.

When you have read The Flint Heart (and please do let us know what you thought about it,) how about Storm Runners? or Small As An Elephant? Or Titanic Sinks!? I think they all qualify as fictional adventures. — Kate Davie

I think the end was good because of what happened to the flint heart but I’m not telling you unless you read it!

  •    lizard34  |  November 4th, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Hi puppy love-wk, I think there is a lot of magic in this story. I think the common time magic is used is when Charles, Unity and Ship get shrunk to fairy size all the time.

  •    lizard34  |  November 4th, 2012 at 12:08 pm

Hi demigod, I agree with you, I think the zagabog is funny too. I think the story he told about the true story about the tortoise and the hare was funny.

  •    lizard34  |  October 26th, 2012 at 4:15 am

It was very surprising when Fum made the flint heart with one tap of his axe. At first it didn’t make sense why it had a hole in the middle, but I found out why when Fum explained it to Phutt.

  •    lizard34  |  October 24th, 2012 at 3:00 pm

I haven’t finished reading the book yet, so far it is good. My favorite part so far is where they go to the fairy party. I can’t wait to read more of this book and it seems like it will be interesting.

  •    booklover  |  October 24th, 2012 at 7:34 am

this book is a really good book. Charles and his sister are really funny characters. because they like going on adventures like to the fairy place. Nice book Kathrine and jJhn.

I really liked the way the authors really made you feel like the characters and show you how hurtful you can be to people when your’e mean to them.

  •    demigod  |  October 22nd, 2012 at 7:33 am

i really liked this book! I think that the zagabog is really funny.

What part of the book made you change your mind about it? — Kate Davie

  •    DCF lover  |  September 9th, 2012 at 9:06 am

I am not a big fan of fantasy but my goal is to read all the DCF books so I ended up reading The Flint Heart. When I started it I thought it was not going to be enjoyable. But after a while, as I got into the action of the evil spell of the flint heart it started to grow on me. I was enjoying reading about Phutt, Charles, Unity, the fairies and the other characters and there adventures with the flint heart.

The DCF list usually has me reading outside my usual genres too — that’s one of the reasons I think it’s a good place to go for reading material. — Kate Davie

At first ‘The Flint Heart’ wasn’t my favorite book. But, when I got more towards the end of the story I was hooked! I couldn’t put it down! It was definatly a quick(but good) read! I think that anybody who likeds fantasy books should try this one!
