I like this book a lot. It is very exiting because it is filled with thrills. I love the part in the middle of the book when they uncover a murder. Janie is trying not to tell anyone. Another thrill is when the cops come into their school and [Spoiler info deleted -- Kate Davie]. It is weird that Benji gets the book.I like the part when Janie tells Benjamin that she “fancys” him.

The Apothecary is a great book and a real page turner for all people that can read a thick book. In this book Janie and Benjamin are trying to stop a nuclear war between to countries, if your wondering who the war will be with or if you like a cliff hanger every chapter then you should read this book.

I really liked this book because it has lots of actions and funny parts. There are even kids trying to get rid of a nuke. Well, maybe boys will love it. Why do you think I like it? ;) I can’t wait for you to read it. This book is really great for kids!

Do you think that boys are more likely to enjoy a book with bombs in it? — Kate Davie

The apothecary is a good book. If you haven’t read it then I think you should. It is good because there is action and mystery. There are some magic potions that change things. There are some really cool fights with Russians and bombs too. See if the main characters can save England and themselves. If you read this I think you will like it.

    so far is good

  •    hamster_girlwk  |  October 30th, 2012 at 8:31 am

I wonder why, Maile Maloy choose to make the Apothecary in the past not present? I think it could be written in the Present (with a lot of adjustments!). It would make you feel like you could do it too, and it’s not like it’s already been done befor you and you can’t do it.

That’s an excellent question, but, alas, I haven’t been able to find an answer on her website (www.mailemeloy.com). (I did find out there that Colin Meloy of The Decembrists is her brother, that’s cool!) She does give contact information, perhaps you could e-mail her. — Kate Davie

  •    hamster_girlwk  |  October 28th, 2012 at 3:55 pm

hunger_gamer, I read this book and there are parts where I was on the verge of tears and other parts where I was dying of laughter. I know exactly how you feel when you said you cryed so hard at the end. Overal I think it was a funny and also serious. It is the best book I ever read!!! Do you think I should read the second book when it comes out??

  •    hamster_girlwk  |  October 28th, 2012 at 2:39 pm

If you like historical fiction then this is the right book for you! When Janie finds out that her parents are communists, they are forced to move to England. They sleep (and live) in a cold flat. When Janie meets Benjamin, the adventure begins! They go through bomb tests, murders, turning into birds, and much, much more. I really like Jen Lo, because she is brave and doesn’t brag about it. Read the Apothecary to find out more.

    OMG!This is epic!

Do you mean epic as in good, or enjoyable, or epic as in long and covering a lot of territory? — Kate Davie

  •    planetside2Fiend  |  October 24th, 2012 at 4:21 pm

This was an AMAZING book!I hope there is a sequel!

You are in luck — at her website (http://www.mailemeloy.com) the author says that she is “finishing a second book about Janie and Benjamin.” It will probably take a while for it to be published, but at least it’s in the pipeline! — Kate Davie

apothecary is a really good book. I suggest you read it.

  •    Anonymous  |  October 23rd, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Page turner! This book wasn’t my favorite but, even then I couldn’t put it down! If you want a mystery/thriller and really well written book ‘The Apothecary’ is the book for you!

  •    hamster_girlwk  |  October 22nd, 2012 at 1:29 pm

I recommend this book for people who like Harry Potter. They both take place in England and both Janie and Benjamin (from The Apothecary), like Harry (from Harry Potter), are fighting evil forces. In the Apothecary, there is no magic or dying, but if you like cliff hangers at the end of every chapter and love mystery, then this is the right book for you!

  •    hamster_girl  |  October 22nd, 2012 at 12:59 pm

Bigbabydavis47: I was a third grader when I read this book. I think it is great for third grade and up. I personally thought it was amazing, suspenseful mystery. It is like going down a super slide, with twists and turns and bumps and dips.
