As small as an elephant is a very good book about an elephant who is abandoned by his mother. I would read this again. It was great.

Hmm. That’s interesting, Jayden, I don’t remember running into a mother elephant in this book. — Kate Davie

My thoughts on the DCF book Small As An Elephant

I think Small As An Elephant is a very good book about a boy who goes to Boston with his mother for a camping trip. The next morning the mother and all her belongings were gone.He has an amazing adventure trying to see an elephant. and when he finally gets there he finds [Spoiler info deleted.-- Kate Davie] so hes not by himself.

Why do you think the author put the elephant in this book? — Kate Davie

    Small as an Elephant.

The reason I liked Small as an Elephant is because it was interesting. I think it was interesting because his mom just left him and he had to care for himself. I thought it was really cool how he snuck into stores to sleep. It caught me by surprise when his bike went missing with all of his stuff, the story really started to spice up when he was being chased by cops and was locked in with a girl. Although I didn’t really like the end how [Spoiler info deleted -- Kate Davie], i did like most of the book,i’ll give it an eight out of ten.

Jack’s mother left him to fend for himself. That makes for alot of adventure. Jack waits for his mom to come back for a few days, but she never shows up. he has to find a solution to his problem. Can he do it?

This book was pretty good but sad. One thing I didn’t enjoy about the book was how it went on and on of the boy looking for his mom, and during that time, the event in the story weren’t very interesting to me. Overall I think it was a nice story.

I think that worrying about a boy that age traveling on his own kept my tension level high, so that kept me very interested. But I am probably a lot older than you, so I have a different point of view. — Kate Davie

Small as an Elephant is a very good story. It shows that be be brave and it just takes to a Journey through Maine and with the comfort with something so small but something so wonderful.

We liked this book but what kept us hooked on it was wanting to find out what happened to Jack’s mother who mysteriously disappears.

I have learned that elephants are a lot like people! They help each other and they like to be with others. All Jack has is a plastic elephant to keep him company. I thought about Jack all day today at school and I felt sad.

I think it’s a sign of good writing when a book distracts you like that. Have you reached the end of the book yet? Maybe things will resolve for Jack in a way that will make you feel better. — Kate Davie

I think the writer had him hurt his pinky because he can still look for his mom and he won’t have to ask for help. I wish he would get help. I would ask for help with my pinky.

  •    Kai Zane jay cole  |  October 29th, 2012 at 3:52 pm

I feel bad that he stole something but I also feel good that he has company. He also helped the older lady and feels bad that he is stealing. I would want to ask for help.

    he hert his pinka.

Why do you think the author had him hurt his pinky, instead of a bigger injury? — Kate Davie

I did not like this book. I thought Jake did not handle it well at all. But it was well written.

It is a challenge to live with a parent who has mental illness, no matter how well intentioned and loving the parent might be. Jack is a courageous character.
