I feel so bad for the little girl. I cried when I heard that her Uncle Gerard died and she got sick. I hope that she doesn’t die, but I guess she doesn’t or it wouldn’t be such a long book. I think it is dangerous to ride onto of a train. I mean, what if you slip and fall off. I would think if you are under a train, you could lay flat on the boards and wait until the train is gone to get up, unless you are on one of the rails then you would either get ripped in half or you would get ripped into shreds and thrown under the train unless you get up and run as fast as you can. I would NEVER, EVER do something like that in my life, unless I have a good reason,[which I never will.]
I really liked this book! I have never been a fan of historical fiction until i read this book. This book opened up a whole new genre that i have never tried. Thank you Martha Brooks!
What a fine testimonial to Ms. Brooks’ writing! There are a lot of wonderful books out there in historical fiction just waiting for you to read them now. — Kate Davie
This book sucked me in. I found it really intriguing. when I first started it, I couldn’t put it down until the end. I would definitely recommend it, though maybe for an older crowd, as the subject was a little heavy.
Queen of hearts is a wonderful book about a teenager named Marie-Claire living in Canada in the era of world war two, when she and her siblings become ill with tuberculosis it is a very large struggle for her to get used to things.Marie-Claire soon becomes friends with the girl in the next bed over and when things take a turn for the worst with her brother she little by little gets her strength back and recovers.
i agree that this book TOTALLY needs a sequel!
I love the story and how it said what she went through TB. The book was awesome and I wish who made it makes a new one.
Along with many other accomplishments, Martha Brooks has written a number of books besides Queen of Hearts. You might want to ask your librarian to help you find them. — Kate Davie
It is a sad story. It was a weird and very, very sad.
I feel super bad for Oncel Gerard because he has TB. What is TB?
TB is short for tuberculosis, an infection which usually involves a person’s lungs. You might be interested, Vampire 1, to know that some people think that tuberculosis may be partly responsible for belief in vampirism. — Kate Davie
Im not reading this book. OK???????????????????
It’s totally up to you, but technically, we’re supposed to be discussing what you HAVE read. You might want to reconsider. I really liked it, the setting is unusual, and the characters are totally believable.. — Kate Davie
I loved this book. Martha Brooks should totally write a second book. The ending made me crazy!
Ms. Brooks seems to keep a pretty low online profile. I haven’t found a website on which she discusses her current writing or future plans. You could try e-mailing her publishers < http://us.macmillan.com/splash/contact.html> and asking them to forward a message asking about any possibility of a sequel. You could take a look at some of her other books too, and see if you like any of those. — Kate Davie
It is very wierd because he is a train driver too.
Hmmm. I thought he was just riding the trains, without buying a ticket. I guess he could do that whether he was mean or nice. — Kate Davie
Uncle Gerard seems like a nice guy. Although he does seem ilk a mean guy to.
What does he do that makes him seem like a nice guy? What does he do that makes him seem like a mean guy?

Queen of Hearts. The best book in DCF book just in the begining!!!
When you get there, please let us know what you think of the end! — Kate Davie
Queen of Hearts. One of the best books in DCF acording to my friend Maddie.
Do you agree with Maddie? — Kate Davie
The Queen of Hearts is one of the best DCF books I’ve read so far. It’s a thrilling story about a daredevil girl and her little brother who both end up in a sanitorium with TB. It’s a sad and amazing story.
I learned a lot about TB and did not know what had been the usual treatment. Great story! This is one of my favorites and I am about halfway through the list of DCF books.
People have told me a lot of great things about this book, and I want to read it aventually. I am not the kind of person who judges a book by it’s cover, but I think this cover is making a lot of people not interested in the book. Before anyone told me it was good, I had no interest in it whatsoever. The cover sees very old fashioned.
Hmm — I thought the cover of this book was intriguing, but I am a fan of historical fiction. What kind of a cover would you have put on it? — Kate Davie
I loved this book and how Marie-Clarie is so brave a bold. A very well developed character. Once again loved it one of the best DCF books this year.
i was surprised how much i liked it it was historical fiction. (i dont read historical fiction)
Do you think you might try some more historical fiction, since this one worked out so well for you? — Kate Davie
This book is great! I had no idea how much I could love historical fiction. I think it’s my new favorite genre! I loved how Marie-Clarie stays by Signy’s side through thick and thin. Everyone who loves reading should read this book, they won’t be dissapointed!
Congratulations on acquiring a new genre to explore! — Kate Davie
This book resonated with me, as my mother was stricken with TB as a young woman in the 1940′s and spent time in a rest home. A very difficult time for her…
It looks like there is a mystery in the book.
Are you going to read it, and solve the mystery? — Kate Davie
